[3] In 2012, a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study found that an astaxanthin-rich Haematococcus pluvialis extract improved cognitive function in healthy elderly people. [4]

Eyes: Free radicals and singlet oxygen oxidize polyunsaturated fatty acids in the retina, leading to functional impairment of cell membranes in the retina, which in turn can cause permanent damage to retinal cells. [5]

Strength and endurance: In a study of 40 healthy male students between the ages of seventeen and nineteen, divided into a treatment group and a placebo group, subjects took one 4 mg capsule of astaxanthin or a placebo daily for six months.
